Are reminders of Spanish occupation and examples of buildings in the style and manner appropriate to the American southwest in which they were constructed using local available materials. They were built in the style of Spanish Colonial architecture that had its foundations in Renaissance and Baroque architectural styles in Spain
They also have continued to influence the art and architecture of California first with the Mission revival movement of the 1880’s – 1920’s and beyond
