Sonoma in Quilts Show Opens May 7, 2022
May 7, 2022 @ 1:00 pm

The quilts are very special. Among the historic quilts are a so-called “cigarette” quilt composed of little silk flags that were inserted into high end cigarette packages between 1880-1920 (cracker jack toys for adults!), a very large patriotic quilt made by a group of quilters from the Valley to raise money for the Bear Flag sesquicentennial, the USA Bicentennial quilt made by sixth graders from El Verano school which won first place at the Sonoma County Fair, a friendship quilt made in 1860 as a wedding gift for Valentine Hope, and many more.
The 14 new art quilts are being made by a group of art quilters from the North Bay specially for this show. They include images of the Sonoma Grammar School (now the Community Center), the Sebastiani Theatre, the Carnegie Library (now the Visitors’ Bureau), Pomo baskets, several adobes, the Mission, and many other wonderful subjects. If you have never seen an art quilt you will be amazed at this “painting in quilting” art.
