The modern Valley of the Moon Vintage Festival was started in 1947. Community members organized the event and local philanthropic organizations set up food and drink booths. It was a community event with a parade featuring local floats, bands dancers and just about every kid in town riding a bike or horse.
The photo to the left has Leo Carrillo on a white horse. Leo Carrillo was a member of the prominent Californio Carrillo family. He often came to Sonoma parades.
